Northenden @Libdems Break Another Promise to Young People

Libdem Lies in Northenden Manchester

Today (7th Apr 2011) the South Manchester Reporter published a piece talking about the Northenden Skatepark, as the Liberal Democrats (Cllr Eakins and Cllr Di Mauro) promised in the SMR last year - see article (date 23/3/10) - but have not delivered.

Pictured above Ben, one of the many young people promised the Skatepark by Cllr Martin Eakins. Ben said that he did many hours campaigning for Eakins following his promises, but is now really upset and angry that he has broken his promise. Ben added that Cllr Eakins will no longer talk to Ben after he asked questions about where the promised Skatepark was.

Also above, Community campaigner Mike Kane said: Northenden had been making real progress with the farmers Market , the riverside park and other projects. The lib dems were happy to claim credit for these when other hard working Villagers did the work. However they have failed to live up to their own rule book when it comes to the promised Skate Park. They misled young people by press releasing this in a cynical ploy to gain votes. It has now become clear they were unable to deliver on their promise. This is yet another example of them breaking the promises they were elected on.

According to last years article building work on the park should have begun at the end of April 2010, however this is clearly not the case. Ben is one of many young people who have talked to Labour candidate Richard Cowell about this broken promise to young people, as well as other broken promises made by the Liberal Democrats that will effect them.

Richard Cowell said: Young people are being unfairly affected by the Liberal Democrat & Conservative cuts. Whether it is broken promises on Tuition Fee’s and EMA or local promises made before last years election about a Local Skatepark, the young people of Northenden, Manchester and the UK are upset & angered. I believe it will be one of my jobs, if elected, as councillor to give young people a voice within our community.
